The Niwot Sanitation District’s wastewater plant reconstruction is making impressive strides, with multiple projects advancing simultaneously. From truss installation on the UV building to water testing in the Oxidation Ditch, each phase brings the facility closer to completion. Crews are diligently installing trusses, pouring concrete, and backfilling critical infrastructure like the new gravity main crossing Dry Creek. Join us as we dive into the latest updates on the UV building, Headworks, dewatering building, clarifiers, and more, showcasing the progress transforming this vital community project.

Our office remains open during regular hours — Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Truss Installation Begins for UV Building Construction

Construction materials and a trailer are scattered around the site. The pond in the background has a fountain and a small boat on its surface, surrounded by a dirt embankment.

Rice Lake West construction crews are actively installing trusses over the new UV building as part of the ongoing development project.

Trusses and Weather Guard Installed, Ready for Metal Sheeting

The brick structure is surrounded by a fenced area with scattered construction materials, a dirt path, and nearby buildings, including a green-roofed shed and temporary structures. A small excavator and stacks of supplies are visible in the background.

The UV building construction has progressed with the trusses and weather guard fully installed, and the structure is now awaiting the installation of metal sheeting to complete the roofing process.

Headworks Progress: CMU Installed, Roof Slab Poured, and Ready for Trusses and Roofing

Aerial view of a construction site at Niwot Sanitation District, showcasing the Headworks building with CMU walls installed and a recently poured roof slab, awaiting trusses and roofing. The brick structure is surrounded by a fenced area with construction materials, a white pickup truck, and scattered equipment. Nearby are a green-roofed shed, temporary structures, and a parking area with several vehicles. A dirt path and grassy terrain are visible in the background.

The Headworks building is steadily taking shape with the CMU walls now fully installed and looking impressive. The roof slab pour has been completed, setting the stage for the installation of trusses and roofing, which is scheduled to begin in the next few weeks.

Dewatering Building Passes Water Tests, Deck Poured for Next Construction Phase

A yellow crane is positioned near a circular tank, while rectangular tanks with scaffolding and walkways are under construction. Construction materials, a white trailer, and heavy machinery are scattered around the site, with temporary fencing and a dirt path visible in the background.

The dewatering building has successfully passed its water tests, and the decking has been poured, making it fully prepared for the next stage of the construction process.

Oxidation Ditch Undergoes Water Testing, WAS and RAS Building Prepares for Next Concrete Pour

The tank has concentric sections and a central structure with walkways and scaffolding. A smaller circular tank and a rectangular concrete structure are nearby, surrounded by a dirt area with construction materials and temporary fencing.

The Oxidation Ditch is currently undergoing water testing to ensure functionality, while the WAS and RAS building forms have been set and are prepared for the next concrete pour in the construction process.

Clarifier Construction Advances with Backfilling for Plug and Patch Phase

What's next?

Here’s a look at the upcoming milestones for the project:

  • The Headworks will undergo caulking, a framing inspection for the roof, followed by roof installation and insulation.

  • The UV building is scheduled for exterior joint caulking, ceiling installation, and insulation.

  • For the Clarifier, equipment will be coated with UV-resistant paint, and the hoist bridge and tower will be installed.

  • The Oxidation Ditch will continue water testing through May, with additional tasks including forming pipe encasements, installing the RAS WAS header, completing underground electrical work, and setting RAS WAS rebar and concrete. Lastly, the Aerobic Digester, also known as the Dewatering Building, is set for rebar installation, electrical work, and a concrete pour in the coming month.
